The Grouper fishing is as good as it gets in the Clearwater area right now. Several of my 3/4 day charters are getting quick limits of Gag Grouper within the first 2 hours of fishing, this gives them more time to target Snapper, Kings, etc..
The full day charters are enjoying a nice mix of Gag and Red Grouper along with Red Snapper.
The 2016 Red Snapper season is underway and we have been getting solid limits on our charters.
Also, Gag Grouper are now in season, making for productive trips offshore. Most of our Red Snapper trips are between 8-10 hrs giving us plenty of time to get on the fish. Call Capt. Brandon if you’d like more info and availability.
Great Fishing lately, as the bait schools and predatory fish have infiltrated the Clearwater area. The Kingfish have been on fire as the water temps hover in the upper 70’s , making them a fun target on the 1/2 and 3/4 dray trips.
Goliath Grouper have also been cooperating in the deeper water offshore. These are strictly catch and release, but will absolutely test your strength!
Amberjack have been good as well. The keeper size fish have moved farther offshore as the season progresses and the fishing pressure on the nearshore spots gets a little heavy. On the Full day charters we can make longer runs offshore that some of the smaller weekend warriors can not make. This gives us access to bigger fish and more fish!
The water temps are hovering around 60 degrees as of right now. This doesn’t shut down the fishing but it certainly changes our approach. On our half day charters, we are targeting nearshore species, such as Flounder, Snapper, Trout, etc… On the 3/4 day charters we are doing really well with the Hog Snapper, Manrove Snapper and Red Grouper while the Full Day offers the latter plus the ever abusive Amberjack. We are looking forward to a great Spring Break season starting in March and are already booking up fast, so stop wishing and let’s go fishing!
Deep Sea Fishing Report:
Lately the winds have been calm , the weather warm and the fishing really, really good. Red Grouper are now open along with Amberjack. Also the Hog Snapper fishing continues to be red hot. Mango Snapper have moved into shallower water making them more prominent on the half day trips than usual. Overall it’s as good as it gets for January in Clearwater FL.
Gag Grouper season in the Gulf Of Mexico ended on Dec 3rd for the Clearwater FL area. Thankfully we got good weather and ran a trip on the 2nd. With the forecasted cold front and heavy winds starting on the 3rd, the Grouper bite was on fire! Our 4 anglers caught a full limit of Gag Grouper ranging from 10-16 lbs each. They also managed some nice Scampo Grouper and Hog Snapper.
Red Grouper season is coming up soon as well as Amberjack, so plenty of fishing to look forward to during the winter months!!
Clearwater Charter Fishing Report
We are finally getting cooler weather here in Clearwater Florida! This means better fishing for Grouper and Snapper on the Deep Sea trips and more action on the nearshore trips.
At this time the Gag Grouper bite has been really good on our full day charters, mostly from 15-30 miles offshore. The key to producing lately has been big live baits, over ledges and natural reef areas. The Hog Snapper bite continues to be on fire! The 3/4 day charters are experiencing tons of action and several nice keepers on those trips.
Nearshore Fishing Report:
The nearshore fishing out of Clearwater beach has been superb. These are great charters for kids and new anglers as it is typically calmer water. We have been catching Flounder, Cobia, Sea bass and more.
